Tulsa, Okla. – Residents in northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas should be prepared for scattered thunderstorms through early Sunday evening, with the primary threat being cloud-to-ground lightning. The storms, developing along an outflow boundary from earlier activity to the north, are expected to remain isolated but could briefly intensify in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, chances for storms between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. will generally stay below 20% for most of the region, including higher terrain in southeast Oklahoma and western Arkansas. Areas such as Fayetteville, Fort Smith, and the Ozark Plateau may see brief downpours or gusty winds if storms do form.

While organized severe weather is not anticipated, the NWS urges caution when lightning is nearby. Residents should seek indoor shelter if thunder is heard and avoid outdoor activities until storms pass. Short-lived downpours may also cause temporary visibility issues on roadways.

Storm chances will diminish after sunset, with quieter conditions expected overnight.
