Tulsa, OK – Residents across northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas are being urged to prepare for potential flooding as a Flood Watch goes into effect late Monday night, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

The first alert, issued by NWS Norman, covers Grant, Kay, and Noble counties in northern Oklahoma from late Monday night through Tuesday afternoon. Forecasters warn that heavy rainfall could trigger flooding in rivers, creeks, and low-lying areas.

According to NWS Tulsa, a broader Flood Watch will be in effect from late Monday night through Wednesday morning across much of northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas, including Tulsa, Muskogee, Fayetteville, Fort Smith, Bentonville, and surrounding communities.

Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected, bringing widespread rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches, with some isolated areas possibly receiving 6 to 8 inches. Officials caution that excessive runoff could lead to flash flooding in urban areas and dangerous rises in local rivers and streams.

The NWS advises residents to monitor updated forecasts, prepare for potential road closures, and avoid driving through flooded roadways. “Turn around, don’t drown,” remains the key safety message for motorists.
