Oklahoma City, OK – An extreme cold warning remains in effect across Oklahoma and northern Texas, with dangerously low wind chills expected through noon Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, temperatures combined with strong winds could create wind chills as low as -20°F. The warning covers central, northern, western, and southern Oklahoma, as well as parts of North Texas, including Wichita Falls and surrounding areas.

The extreme cold poses a risk of hypothermia and frostbite for those exposed to the elements for extended periods. Officials urge residents to bundle up in multiple layers, including hats, face masks, and gloves, when heading outdoors.

Residents should also take precautions to protect water pipes from freezing by insulating them or allowing faucets to drip slowly. Additionally, pet owners are advised to keep animals indoors whenever possible.

The cold spell is expected to ease by Thursday afternoon as temperatures slowly begin to rise. Until then, residents should take all necessary precautions to stay safe in the frigid conditions.
