Tulsa, OK – A widespread Flood Watch is in effect across eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas through Monday evening as multiple rounds of heavy rainfall are expected to bring significant flood risks during the holiday weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, the watch, issued Friday afternoon, warns of potential flooding across counties including Tulsa, Rogers, Muskogee, and Washington in Oklahoma, and Benton, Madison, and Carroll in Arkansas. The advisory begins late Friday night and will remain active until 7 p.m. Monday.
Forecasters anticipate rainfall totals of 4 to 6 inches across the affected areas, with isolated locations possibly seeing up to 10 inches. The agency cautions that excessive runoff from repeated rainfall may lead to flash flooding and rising water levels along rivers, creeks, and low-lying roads.
“Both flash flooding and river flooding are likely with the forecasted precipitation amounts,” the statement reads, noting that the heaviest rainfall is expected in waves throughout the weekend.
Residents in flood-prone areas are urged to stay alert and prepare for changing conditions. Local officials also advise those planning outdoor Memorial Day activities to remain cautious and review flood safety procedures, particularly during nighttime hours when flooded roadways may be more difficult to detect.
Emergency services and public safety officials are on standby, and further warnings could be issued if conditions worsen. Drivers are reminded never to attempt to cross flooded roads and to monitor updated weather alerts through the weekend.
