Tulsa, Okla. – Parts of eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas could see significant flooding through Monday night, as multiple rounds of heavy rain threaten to drop up to 10 inches in some areas over the holiday weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, a Flood Watch goes into effect late Friday and will remain in place through 7 p.m. Monday. The affected area includes 27 counties stretching from Tulsa and Muskogee in Oklahoma to Fayetteville and Bentonville in Arkansas. Rainfall totals are expected to range from 4 to 6 inches, with localized amounts between 8 and 10 inches, potentially triggering flash flooding and river rises.
Communities along the Illinois, Verdigris, and Arkansas Rivers are at heightened risk, and low-lying areas in cities such as Claremore, Sallisaw, and Springdale could see road closures. Emergency managers urge residents to avoid driving through flooded roadways and to have evacuation plans ready in case conditions worsen.
If you’re planning outdoor events this Memorial Day weekend, be prepared to move indoors quickly. Charge devices, monitor local alerts, and avoid camping or parking near streams and creeks.
Flood Warnings may follow if rainfall intensifies. The watch remains active through Monday evening, with additional updates expected as the weather pattern evolves.
