Tulsa, OK – A Red Flag Warning has been issued for northwest Arkansas on Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. due to critical fire weather conditions. Eastern Oklahoma is under a Fire Weather Watch during the same period, with strong winds and low humidity increasing the risk of rapid fire spread.
According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, southwest winds between 15-25 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph, and minimum humidity levels of 15-20% will create dangerous fire conditions. Residents in the affected areas, including Fayetteville, Fort Smith, and Poteau, are urged to avoid outdoor burning and take precautions to prevent sparks.
Officials warn that any fires that start in these conditions could spread quickly. People should properly dispose of cigarettes, avoid using open flames, and secure outdoor equipment that may create sparks.
