Wilmington, OH – Bitter cold and gusty winds are sweeping across Ohio today, with wind chills plunging into the single digits. Gusts reaching 40 mph are creating hazardous travel conditions, particularly on I-71 and US-35. Light snow is reported in some areas, adding to the risk of slick roads.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, temperatures are expected to remain in the 20s, with a high of just 26°F today. The wind will amplify the cold, making it feel as low as zero in the morning. Drivers are urged to slow down, especially in exposed areas and on bridges, where icy patches are more likely.
The chilly trend continues into Friday, with mostly sunny skies and a high of 31°F, though winds will ease to 7-13 mph. Saturday brings a brief respite, with highs reaching 39°F and calmer winds. By Sunday, a significant warm-up is expected, with highs near 49°F under mostly sunny skies. Rain moves in Sunday night, bringing a 90% chance of precipitation and highs near 55°F on Monday.
Residents are advised to dress in layers, limit outdoor exposure, and secure loose outdoor items due to high winds. Those planning weekend travel should prepare for rain and potentially wet roadways starting late Sunday.
