Cleveland, OH – Lake effect snow continues to impact Northeast Ohio this Sunday afternoon, creating hazardous travel conditions for residents across the region.

The National Weather Service has extended its Lake Effect Snow Warning until 7 p.m. tonight for areas including Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula counties. Snowfall rates of up to 1 inch per hour are expected, with an additional inch of accumulation possible by evening. Key roadways such as I-90, Route 2, and other secondary roads may see slippery conditions and reduced visibility due to blowing snow.

According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, plow crews are actively working to clear snow, but drivers are urged to exercise caution, allow extra travel time, and keep a safe distance from other vehicles. Motorists should also carry an emergency kit with essentials like water, food, and flashlights in case of unexpected delays.

Sunday evening will remain cloudy and cold, with temperatures dropping to the low 20s and wind gusts reaching up to 24 mph. Blowing snow may persist into the night, particularly near Lake Erie. Residents should prepare for rapidly changing conditions and check live traffic updates at OhGo.com before heading out.

As snow showers taper off overnight, more lake effect snow is forecast for Monday, accompanied by blustery winds. The first week of January looks to remain cold, with periodic snow showers continuing through midweek.
