Cleveland, OH – Freezing rain across northeast Ohio is creating hazardous road conditions Sunday morning, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory. The National Weather Service warns ice accumulation under one-tenth of an inch may cause slick roads and sidewalks until noon.
According to the advisory, the affected areas include Cleveland, Akron, Youngstown, and surrounding counties. Snow began early Sunday but quickly transitioned to freezing rain as warmer air moved aloft. While temperatures are expected to rise by midday, dangerous ice remains a concern until then.
Transportation authorities urge drivers to delay unnecessary travel and exercise caution on bridges and overpasses. Sidewalks and driveways are also likely to become icy, increasing the risk of falls. Residents venturing outside are advised to take extra care with their first steps.
Rain will replace freezing rain as temperatures climb this afternoon, reducing the risk of icy surfaces. However, road conditions may remain wet and slippery. For updated travel information, visit ohgo.com.
