Cleveland, OH – A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for Northeast Ohio, with heavy lake-effect snow and strong winds forecast from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday night. Up to 12 inches of snow is expected in some areas, making travel hazardous and reducing visibility.
According to the National Weather Service, the storm will begin late Wednesday with a mix of rain and snow before transitioning to heavy snow overnight. Gusty winds of up to 45 mph are predicted, causing blowing snow and potential power outages. Residents in Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula counties should prepare for rapidly deteriorating conditions on roads, including I-90 and state routes along the Lake Erie snowbelt.
Temperatures are forecast to drop into the low 20s overnight Wednesday, with wind chills nearing single digits. Those traveling or commuting should delay plans if possible or carry emergency kits, including blankets, food, and water.
Looking ahead, conditions will remain cold and blustery into Thursday, with additional accumulations possible as snow showers persist. Friday is expected to bring some relief, with sunny skies and highs near 32 degrees, but icy road conditions may linger. The weekend will remain unsettled, with snow showers possible Saturday and Sunday.
Officials recommend monitoring weather updates closely and avoiding unnecessary travel. For the latest road conditions and warnings, visit weather.gov/cle or follow updates from the Ohio Department of Transportation.
