Charleston, WV – A winter storm continues to impact Ohio and West Virginia early Wednesday, bringing dangerous ice accumulations and travel disruptions. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for multiple counties, with ice accumulation expected to reach up to 0.4 inches in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, WV, the warning remains in effect until 11 AM Wednesday, with an Ice Storm Warning following for parts of West Virginia until 4 AM Thursday. Affected areas include Meigs and Gallia Counties in Ohio, along with Mason, Jackson, Wood, and several others in West Virginia.
The hazardous conditions could cause widespread power outages and make roads nearly impassable, particularly in Pocahontas and Randolph Counties, where wind gusts up to 35 mph may worsen ice buildup on power lines and trees.
Residents are urged to avoid travel if possible and prepare for power outages. If travel is necessary, officials advise carrying a flashlight, food, and water in case of an emergency. Road condition updates are available by calling 511 or checking state transportation websites.
