Columbus, Ohio-West Virginia Border – Snow could begin sticking to roads along I-70 and I-77 by 6 a.m. Sunday, with a 30 to 50 percent chance that at least 2 inches accumulates across eastern Ohio and much of West Virginia before 6 a.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service, a developing winter system is expected to track east late Saturday night through Sunday night, placing central and eastern Ohio, including Columbus, Zanesville and Marietta, in a corridor favorable for accumulating snowfall. The risk extends into western and central West Virginia, including Parkersburg, Wheeling and Charleston, where elevation could locally enhance totals.

If steady snow develops during the Sunday morning and afternoon travel windows, visibility could drop below one mile in heavier bands. Elevated roadways and river crossings, including stretches of I-70 near Wheeling and I-64 near Charleston, may become slick first as surface temperatures hover near freezing.

ODOT and the West Virginia Division of Highways are monitoring pavement temperatures and preparing plow crews ahead of potential impacts. A slight shift in the storm track could push heavier snow deeper into the Appalachian foothills or keep higher totals confined to eastern Ohio.

Residents should prepare by allowing extra travel time, checking tire tread and limiting non-essential travel during periods of heavier snowfall. Winter weather advisories may be issued by Saturday as confidence increases in snowfall placement and totals through early Monday morning.
