Charleston, W.Va. – Heavy rainfall from slow-moving storms could lead to flash flooding across West Virginia and southeast Ohio through Monday evening, with severe weather risks continuing through Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Flood Watch remains in effect for much of central and southern West Virginia, including Charleston, Elkins, Beckley, and Clarksburg, as well as parts of southeastern Ohio. Thunderstorms capable of producing excessive rainfall could trigger localized flooding on roads and low-lying areas. The greatest risk is expected Monday evening, but daily storm chances will persist through Thursday.

Strong to severe storms are possible Tuesday and Wednesday as an upper-level disturbance moves through the region. On Thursday, a cold front will push through, increasing storm coverage and potentially bringing damaging winds and brief downpours.

Drivers should avoid flooded roadways and have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts. Utility outages and travel delays are possible, especially in flood-prone areas and along I-79, I-64, and U.S. Route 60.

Conditions should begin to dry out Friday as high pressure builds in, bringing a calmer weekend outlook.
