CLEVELAND – Strong southerly winds are sweeping across northern and central Ohio early Sunday, toppling small branches and creating difficult driving conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles. The National Weather Service in Cleveland said a Wind Advisory remains in effect until noon EDT Sunday for a wide area stretching from Toledo and Cleveland south to Marion, Mansfield, and Akron.
According to the Weather Service, sustained south winds up to 25 mph with gusts reaching 50 mph will continue through late morning before easing around midday. The strongest gusts are expected near Lake Erie, along the I-90 corridor, and on exposed ridges in Medina and Summit counties.
Officials warned that unsecured outdoor objects—such as patio furniture, trash bins, or Halloween decorations—could be blown around. Isolated power outages are possible where tree limbs fall on utility lines. Drivers on I-80, I-77, and the Ohio Turnpike should use extra caution, particularly when crossing open bridges or overpasses.
According to the National Weather Service, winds will gradually diminish this afternoon as skies turn partly sunny. Cooler, calmer weather returns Monday before a stretch of dry fall days midweek.
