CLEVELAND, Ohio – After a stretch of unseasonable warmth, Northeast Ohio will feel a dramatic fall cooldown beginning late Tuesday as a strong cold front sweeps across the region. Afternoon highs near 70°F will tumble into the 50s by Wednesday, with nighttime lows dropping into the mid-30s by Thursday — cold enough for patchy frost and potential freeze conditions in inland valleys.

According to the National Weather Service Cleveland office, the front will arrive Tuesday afternoon and evening, shifting winds northwest and ushering in much cooler, drier air. The coldest nights are expected Wednesday and Thursday, when calm winds and clear skies could allow temperatures to fall near or below freezing in parts of Medina, Ashland, Wayne, and Holmes counties. Frost and Freeze Headlines may be issued if current trends hold.

The sharp temperature drop could impact late-season crops and unprotected outdoor plants. Residents are urged to cover tender vegetation and bring pets indoors. Garden hoses should be disconnected, and early-morning commuters may encounter patchy frost on windshields by Thursday.

Temperatures should moderate slightly by Friday as southerly flow returns, though highs will remain near seasonal averages in the upper 50s and lower 60s.
