Wilmington, Ohio – A stretch of cool, calm fall weather will dominate southern Ohio through the end of the week, with the season’s first widespread frost possible by Thursday night. Temperatures will run several degrees below normal, and clear, still nights will set the stage for a crisp and chilly finish to the workweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, highs will hover in the mid- to upper 50s Wednesday and Thursday under partly to mostly cloudy skies. While breezy conditions tonight will limit frost formation, winds will ease Thursday evening, allowing lows to fall into the low 30s in rural areas—cold enough for patchy frost or a brief freeze, especially north of the Ohio River and across interior valleys.

Motorists may encounter early-morning fog Friday, and gardeners should take precautions to protect sensitive vegetation from the frost. The agency notes that this could mark the first freeze for portions of southwest and central Ohio, including the Dayton and Hillsboro areas.

Drier weather will continue through Saturday with moderating temperatures, setting up a milder, sunny weekend across the region.
