Columbus, OH – Ohio residents are bracing for a bitter blast of Arctic air early next week that will deliver the coldest temperatures of the season. According to the NOAA Weather Prediction Center, a powerful cold front will sweep through the state Monday, November 10, bringing a hard freeze and blustery northwest winds by early Tuesday morning, November 11.
Forecast lows are expected to reach 24°F in Columbus, 23°F in Cincinnati, and 25°F in Cleveland, with even colder readings in rural areas and along the Lake Erie snowbelt, where wind chills could drop into the upper-teens. Southeastern cities like Marietta and Athens are also forecast to fall below freezing, marking the first widespread hard freeze of the season statewide.
The National Weather Service offices in Cleveland, Wilmington, and Charleston, WV, have issued freeze warnings for nearly all Ohio counties. Forecasters say gusty northwest winds up to 30 mph will drive apparent temperatures down 5–10 degrees below the actual air temperature, creating a winter-like feel across the region.
According to the Weather Prediction Center’s Day 3–7 Hazards Outlook, Ohio sits near the center of a massive “Frost/Freeze” corridor stretching from the Great Lakes to the Gulf Coast. The front’s passage will mark a dramatic 30-degree temperature drop in less than 24 hours.
Tuesday’s highs will remain in the upper-30s to low-40s, roughly 20 degrees below seasonal averages. The cold pattern will persist through midweek before slow moderation later in the week.
Residents are urged to bring pets indoors, wrap pipes, and protect plants ahead of the freeze.
