CLEVELAND, Ohio — Wind ripples across Lake Erie this morning, tossing waves against the breakwall and hinting at a blustery change ahead. After a mild, gray start to the week, northern Ohio braces for an active stretch of weather that will bring showers, gusty winds, and cooler air by Thursday.

The National Weather Service in Cleveland reports scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will roll through much of northeast Ohio today, with highs near 62°F. Breezy south winds between 15 and 25 mph could gust up to 35 mph, especially along the I-90 corridor. While severe weather is not expected, small hail and brief heavy rain are possible in the strongest cells through this evening.

Wednesday brings the windiest stretch of the week as a cold front sweeps east across the Great Lakes. Expect gusts between 35 and 40 mph from Toledo through Cleveland, strongest along the lakeshore and exposed areas. Scattered rain showers will continue through the afternoon, but skies will gradually begin to clear late in the day as temperatures dip into the 40s.

Thursday turns noticeably cooler and calmer with highs near 54°F. Lows in the low 40s may flirt with upper-30s farther inland — the first early sign of a fall frost possible later this week if clear skies persist.

By Friday and into the weekend, sunshine returns and temperatures climb back into the upper 50s. Still, this stretch marks Ohio’s firm step into late fall — breezier, cooler, and a touch closer to winter’s doorstep.
