WILMINGTON, Ohio – September’s fall weather will feel more like midsummer this week as Wilmington holds onto sunny skies and above-normal warmth through Thursday. Highs will push into the mid-to-upper 80s, raising concerns for heat fatigue during afternoon commutes on I-71 and area backroads.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, Tuesday will be mostly sunny with highs near 84 degrees. East winds will remain light at 5 to 7 mph, keeping conditions dry but doing little to cool off the afternoon sun. Clear skies dominate the region, with no measurable rain expected until the weekend.

Drivers and residents should plan for warm afternoons followed by crisp evenings, with lows dipping into the upper 50s. Those working outdoors or traveling along I-71 are urged to stay hydrated and avoid extended sun exposure during peak hours. Energy demand may also rise as residents lean on cooling systems, and crews remind neighbors to conserve power when possible.

By midweek, Wednesday and Thursday continue the streak of sunshine, with highs near 83 to 87 degrees. While the dry stretch offers smooth travel conditions, the sharp drop to cooler nighttime lows could surprise early-morning drivers with fog in low-lying valleys.

Looking ahead, a pattern shift late Saturday may introduce scattered showers and a small chance of storms. Rain chances increase by Saturday night, bringing some relief from the extended heat.
