WILMINGTON, Ohio – Drivers in Clinton County may need to rethink Sunday evening travel as thunderstorms push into the area, bringing the potential for heavy rain, lightning, and slippery roads along I-71. The first wave of unsettled weather is expected Sunday afternoon, with conditions worsening by nightfall.

According to the National Weather Service, storm chances climb to 50 percent after 2 p.m. Sunday, with the heaviest activity possible after dark. Forecasters warn that isolated storms may dump localized downpours, creating ponding on roads and slowing overnight traffic. Commuters should plan for delays and use caution on highways, particularly stretches of I-71 near Wilmington.

Saturday stays partly sunny with highs in the upper 80s before cooler air and storms arrive. By Monday, showers remain likely with another 50 percent chance of thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Winds from the south will hold steady around 10 mph, fueling unstable air into early next week.

The wet pattern lingers into Tuesday, keeping conditions unsettled with more scattered showers. Temperatures hold in the low 80s through Monday, but humidity and clouds will make the air feel heavy. Power outages remain possible in stronger storms, so residents are advised to keep devices charged and secure outdoor items before Sunday evening.

Showers gradually taper by midweek, but forecasters caution that a final round of rain may persist into Wednesday morning before skies brighten.

Warnings remain in effect through Tuesday, with additional advisories possible if storms intensify.
