COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio is expected to experience a short-lived moderation in temperatures around Valentine’s Day, though winter weather concerns will persist as rain and snow chances remain in the forecast from Feb. 14 through Feb. 20.

High temperatures on Valentine’s Day are forecast to reach the low to mid-30s across central Ohio, including Columbus, with some areas briefly climbing above freezing during the afternoon. Overnight lows are expected to fall into the 20s, increasing the likelihood of mixed precipitation as weak systems move through the region.

Forecast guidance points to an unsettled pattern through the period, with multiple chances for light precipitation rather than a single major storm. Rain or a rain-snow mix is most likely during daylight hours, while snow becomes more probable overnight as colder air returns. Northern Ohio may see slightly higher snow chances, while southern counties are more likely to see rain at times.

Although significant snowfall is not anticipated at this time, light accumulations and fluctuating temperatures could create slick travel conditions, particularly during the early morning commute. Bridges, overpasses and untreated secondary roads may become icy as temperatures dip below freezing.

Temperatures are expected to remain near seasonal norms through the extended forecast, with no sustained warmup indicated. Ohio residents planning Valentine’s Day weekend travel or outdoor activities should stay alert for forecast updates, as small temperature changes could impact precipitation type and road conditions between Feb. 14 and Feb. 20.
