Cincinnati, Ohio – Heavy rain returns to Ohio this weekend, with up to 6 inches possible in some areas, raising concerns for flooding along rivers through next Friday.
According to the National Weather Service’s Ohio River Forecast Center, scattered showers and storms will move across the Ohio Valley on Saturday and Sunday, followed by a brief lull before rain redevelops Sunday night. Rainfall totals between 1 and 3 inches are likely across most of Ohio, but locally higher amounts of 4 to 6+ inches are expected in areas hit by repeated storms.
Rivers in western Ohio, including portions of the Scioto and Great Miami watersheds, are already approaching Action to Minor Flood Stage. Additional rises are expected throughout the region as runoff accumulates during the week. Forecast maps show heavier precipitation in southern and eastern counties, including Portsmouth, Athens, and Marietta.
Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads, and residents near rivers should prepare for rising water levels. Charge devices and monitor alerts in case of power outages or evacuations.
This storm system is part of a slow-moving low-pressure pattern that may linger through late next week. More advisories could be issued as rainfall totals climb.
