Ohio – Damp roads and low clouds linger across central Ohio this morning, but winter weather is lining up just hours away. What begins as rain today shifts quickly toward snow showers, bringing visibility drops, gusty winds, and a growing risk for slick travel by Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, rain develops mainly by mid to late afternoon, with temperatures climbing into the low 50s. Conditions deteriorate this evening as colder air rushes in. Rain may mix with or change to snow before dawn, especially north and west of downtown Columbus.

Snow showers become more likely Sunday morning. While accumulations stay light, generally under a half inch, brief bursts could coat roads quickly. Gusty west winds reach 30 mph at times, lowering visibility and blowing snow across exposed stretches of I-70, I-71, and outer belt routes like I-270.

This setup favors fast-changing road conditions. Pavement that looks merely wet can turn slushy within minutes. Hills, bridges, and ramps will ice first as temperatures fall into the mid-20s Sunday night. That creates flash-freeze concerns heading into the Monday commute.

Sunday afternoon remains cold and breezy, with highs near the mid-30s. Snow showers taper late, but lingering moisture refreezes after sunset. Drivers should plan extra time and slow down when snow bursts pass through.

Monday brings calmer weather. Skies brighten and winds ease, though highs only reach near 40. Mornings stay cold through midweek, keeping isolated slick spots possible even without new precipitation. Another rain chance appears by Tuesday night into Wednesday, followed again by colder air.

Winter is firmly reasserting itself across Ohio. Even minor snow can cause outsized impacts this time of year.
