Wilmington, Ohio – Thunderstorms and dangerous heat are set to collide across southern Ohio starting Friday, July 25th, raising weekend safety concerns for drivers and residents. Heat index values could approach 100 degrees from Friday through Monday, while heavy downpours may bring localized flash flooding, especially Friday and Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, Friday will bring a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 11 a.m. Rainfall could be heavy at times, especially in slow-moving storms. On Saturday, storms may arrive early, with another round possible by evening. The greatest flash flooding threat exists where storms repeatedly pass over the same areas, particularly in low-lying spots and near highways such as I-71 and US-68.
Humidity will intensify the danger. Actual high temperatures near 90°F will feel significantly hotter due to high dewpoints. Residents should limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and avoid poorly drained roads if flooding occurs.
Spotter activation is not expected at this time, but conditions will remain favorable for brief heavy downpours and thunderstorm wind gusts through the weekend.
