Steubenville, Ohio – Storms capable of producing damaging winds and hail could develop quickly this evening across eastern Ohio, with a Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 10 p.m. Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Watch 72 includes Belmont, Jefferson, Harrison, and Monroe counties, where conditions are favorable for strong to severe thunderstorms through the evening hours.
Communities including Steubenville, St. Clairsville, and Cadiz are in the primary risk zone, where wind gusts could reach up to 60 mph and cause downed tree limbs or isolated power outages. Brief hail is also possible in stronger storm cells moving through the Ohio Valley.
Travel along key routes such as U.S. 22, State Route 7, and nearby sections of I-70 may be impacted by sudden downpours, reduced visibility, and debris on roadways. Drivers should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions, especially during the evening hours.
Residents are urged to stay weather-aware and be ready to move indoors quickly if warnings are issued. The watch remains in effect until 10 p.m., with additional alerts possible as storms strengthen.
