Zanesville, Ohio – The severe weather threat continues to escalate this evening as a Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been extended until 10 p.m. Sunday for parts of east-central Ohio.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, Watch 72 now includes Carroll, Coshocton, Guernsey, Muskingum, Noble, and Tuscarawas counties, where conditions remain favorable for damaging thunderstorms through the evening hours.

Cities including Zanesville, Cambridge, New Philadelphia, and Dover are in the path of storms capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and isolated hail. As storms track east, sudden downpours and strong wind cores could quickly reduce visibility and create hazardous driving conditions.

Key routes such as I-70, U.S. 36, and State Route 77 may experience brief slowdowns due to heavy rain and debris. Power outages are possible if stronger wind gusts bring down tree limbs.

Residents should remain weather-aware and be prepared to take shelter if warnings are issued. The watch remains active through 10 p.m., with additional warnings likely as storms develop and move across the region.
