Columbus, OH – A line of potentially dangerous storms is forecast to move through central and southwestern Ohio late Wednesday into early Thursday, with damaging winds and isolated tornadoes expected to impact major cities including Columbus and Cincinnati.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a severe weather system will push across the region between 9 p.m. Wednesday and 3 a.m. Thursday. Areas along the I-71 corridor, particularly Columbus and Cincinnati, are expected to experience the strongest impacts during this timeframe. Forecasters warn of wind gusts strong enough to cause tree damage and power outages, along with the possibility of a few tornadoes.

The latest severe weather outlook map, issued Wednesday afternoon, places portions of western and central Ohio under an Enhanced Risk for severe weather. Counties west of Columbus, including Dayton, Richmond, and Brookville, may see storms begin as early as 9 p.m. Wednesday. Columbus, Wilmington, and Chillicothe are in the 12 to 3 a.m. Thursday window, while areas farther southeast such as Portsmouth and Peebles may experience storms between 3 to 6 a.m.

The primary threats include wind gusts exceeding 60 mph, isolated tornadoes, and localized flooding in low-lying areas. Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, stay weather-aware through the overnight hours, and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts while sleeping.

The National Weather Service advises that even brief overnight tornadoes can be particularly dangerous due to reduced visibility and slower response times.

More updates are expected as the evening progresses. Officials recommend monitoring local news stations and NOAA weather radio for the latest warnings and advisories.
