Columbus, Ohio – Severe thunderstorms could slam parts of southern and central Ohio Tuesday afternoon, bringing the threat of flash flooding, gusty winds, and isolated hail from Cincinnati to Chillicothe.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, areas under a slight risk for severe weather include Cincinnati, Dayton, Wilmington, and Portsmouth, where storms are expected to develop after 2 p.m. and intensify into the evening. The greatest rainfall concern lies across southern and central Ohio, where localized flooding may occur.
Counties including Hamilton, Clermont, Scioto, and Ross may see 1 to 2 inches of rain in a short period, raising concerns for creeks, low-lying roads, and urban drainage systems. U.S. Route 23 and I-71 could experience reduced visibility and ponding during the evening commute.
Residents in flood-prone zones should avoid driving through water-covered roads and ensure devices are charged in case of power outages. Emergency kits and alternate travel routes are also advised.
While northern Ohio faces lower risks, those from Cincinnati to Portsmouth should stay alert through late Tuesday night. Additional alerts may be issued as the system develops.
