Wilmington, Ohio – Flash flooding, road washouts, and dangerous driving conditions are possible across Ohio this weekend as repeated rounds of heavy rain drench the region through Saturday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, widespread rainfall totals could reach 2 to 3 inches by late Saturday, with localized amounts topping 4 inches in parts of southern and central Ohio. A severe storm threat is also in play Saturday afternoon, bringing the potential for damaging wind gusts and isolated hail.

Communities from Dayton to Athens, including parts of I-70 and I-71 corridors, should prepare for poor drainage flooding and hazardous travel. Emergency management urges residents not to drive through flooded roads — even shallow water can stall or sweep vehicles. Urban areas like Columbus and Cincinnati are at particular risk due to pavement runoff.

The Weather Prediction Center notes this multi-day setup resembles past summer systems that triggered flash flood emergencies, especially in low-lying and rural areas. Power outages are also possible where storms intensify.

Rain chances linger into Sunday morning, with more showers expected early next week. Another round of alerts could be issued as the pattern evolves.
