CLEVELAND, Ohio – A brisk, restless wind is rattling windows across northern Ohio early Wednesday, carrying scattered showers and the scent of late fall change. The air feels raw along Lake Erie, where gusts could top 40 mph before calmer, cooler air slips in by Friday. Travelers on I-90 and I-480 should prepare for slick pavement and reduced visibility at times, especially during Wednesday’s commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, southwest winds will hold strong through Wednesday afternoon before easing Thursday night. Showers remain likely from Sandusky to Youngstown, with a few embedded thunderstorms possible east of Akron. Rainfall totals stay light—mostly under a half inch—but enough to keep roads damp and leaves slick during cleanup. The NWS also notes temperatures will stay in the 50s through Friday, dipping into the 40s overnight with wind chills in the 30s along the lakeshore.

By Friday, a west-to-east clearing trend should bring brighter skies and lighter winds, offering a brief window for outdoor work before another system approaches early next week. Saturday looks crisp and dry, ideal for late-yard chores or early Halloween decorating, with highs in the mid-50s. Sunday turns milder under mostly sunny skies before clouds rebuild Monday.

For now, Ohio remains on the mild side of the nation’s first winter transition, though meteorologists say the next front could deliver a sharper chill—and maybe a few early flakes—by the end of October.
