Cleveland, OH – Hazardous marine conditions are continuing through midnight Sunday across the nearshore zones of Lake Erie, stretching from Vermilion, OH through Ripley, NY, according to the National Weather Service in Cleveland.
Forecasters said west-northwest winds of 15–25 knots are producing waves of 3 to 6 feet, with isolated peaks up to 7 feet in the central and eastern portions of the lake. A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect through midnight before winds subside slightly overnight.
While conditions are expected to improve Monday and Tuesday, the weather pattern will become more dangerous again by Wednesday evening, when gale-force winds are increasingly likely across Lake Erie. Forecast models show a 50–70% probability of sustained gales, with waves building sharply along the eastern basin.
Boaters and anglers are urged to heed all warnings, secure small vessels, and avoid unnecessary travel on the lake through the advisory period. “Conditions will improve briefly early in the week,” the NWS said, “but mariners should prepare now for stronger winds returning midweek.”
