Wilmington, OH – A sharp cold front is expected to bring widespread frost to the Wilmington area this week, with freezing temperatures likely starting Tuesday night. As warmer-than-average conditions taper off, the National Weather Service (NWS) has warned residents to brace for much colder weather and prepare outdoor plants and vehicles accordingly.

According to the NWS, today’s high of 78°F is the last day of above-normal warmth. Starting Monday, temperatures will begin to plummet, with highs barely reaching the mid-50s and nighttime lows nearing the freezing mark. The coldest stretch is expected on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, with lows forecasted at 34°F and 32°F, respectively. Frost will likely affect areas near major roads like State Route 73 and U.S. Route 68.

Residents should cover sensitive plants and bring pets indoors to avoid frost damage. Additionally, those traveling during the early mornings are urged to drive cautiously as frost can create slick spots on local highways. This frost event marks an early start to colder weather in the area, typical of November but arriving sooner this year.

Looking ahead, cooler weather will persist, with daytime highs in the 50s through midweek, followed by another slight warm-up by Friday. Expect highs near 68°F by the end of the week. However, cold overnight temperatures will continue, so keep frost precautions in place through at least Thursday.
