Columbus, OH – Frosted rooftops glimmer under a clear predawn sky this Friday as central Ohio wakes to its coldest morning so far this fall. The National Weather Service has a Freeze Warning in effect until 9 a.m., with temperatures near or just below 30°F across much of central and southern Ohio. Gardeners and homeowners are urged to cover or bring in tender plants, and drain outdoor hoses to prevent damage.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, sub-freezing temperatures are being reported from Columbus to Chillicothe, with lighter frost extending toward Dayton and Newark. Friday’s chill will ease under full sunshine later today, pushing highs into the upper 50s, but the calm setup tonight could allow frost to return again before Saturday’s sunrise.

Saturday brings a bright, quiet day with highs near 57°F, perfect for outdoor plans or fall yard cleanup. Sunday stays mild and mostly sunny, inching toward 59°F as the region transitions toward a slightly warmer pattern early next week.

By Monday, clouds begin to build ahead of a weak front bringing scattered showers late in the day. Temperatures remain seasonal, but residents across the Ohio Valley can expect cool, damp starts through midweek.

To be fair, it’s typical late-October chill—nothing extreme—but it’s a clear reminder that the growing season has officially ended. Trick-or-treaters next Friday may need jackets rather than umbrellas, as early indications suggest dry, cool air will dominate for Halloween night.
