LAKE BUCKHORN, Ohio – A brief EF-1 tornado ripped through southern Holmes County Monday evening, snapping dozens of trees and damaging several structures in its path. The tornado touched down for just three minutes but packed enough force to leave a noticeable trail of destruction.

According to a preliminary damage survey from the US National Weather Service in Cleveland, the tornado began at 5:28 p.m. on June 9. It carved a 1.32-mile path with estimated peak winds of 105 mph. The survey indicated the tornado reached a maximum width of 80 yards before lifting at 5:31 p.m.

The primary impact was felt in the Lake Buckhorn community, a residential area surrounded by woodland. Images from the scene showed large trees uprooted and significant damage to the exterior of at least one home and an outbuilding. Fortunately, officials have reported no injuries or deaths resulting from the storm.

While the tornado was short-lived, it serves as a powerful reminder of how quickly severe weather can develop. The National Weather Service has completed its initial assessment, confirming the tornado’s strength and path through the community.
