Cleveland, Ohio – Drivers across northern Ohio should prepare for reduced visibility late Friday night as fog develops in areas still drying out from recent rains.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, dense fog is expected to form after midnight, particularly from north-central to northeast Ohio and into northwest Pennsylvania. Visibility could fall to just half a mile at times, especially near Sandusky, Mansfield, Akron, and parts of Interstate 71 and 90 corridors.
Communities including Cleveland, Canton, Youngstown, and Erie, Pennsylvania, are all within the fog zone, with especially patchy conditions near Sandusky and Findlay. Recent rainfall has saturated the ground, creating ideal conditions for overnight fog formation. Drivers are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra travel time.
This fog event follows two days of steady rain, increasing the risk for low-lying and rural areas. Travel between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. Saturday could be particularly hazardous for early commuters and long-haul truckers.
Conditions should improve by mid-morning Saturday as the sun rises and visibility increases. Another advisory could be issued if fog lingers longer than expected.
