Columbus, Ohio – Blistering heat and the threat of severe thunderstorms will hammer central Ohio Friday, July 25, prompting a Weather Alert that could impact both health and travel through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Heat Advisory remains in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with “feels like” temperatures between 100 and 104 degrees. Areas impacted include Columbus, Dayton, Cincinnati, and communities along I-70, where sweltering conditions could trigger heat-related illnesses if precautions aren’t taken.

Residents are urged to drink water, avoid strenuous outdoor activity, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Light clothing and AC access will be critical. The advisory stretches across east central and southwest Ohio, as well as parts of Indiana and Kentucky.

By Friday afternoon, the heat gives way to another threat: thunderstorms beginning around 2 p.m., becoming widespread by evening. These storms could produce heavy rain, lightning, and flash flooding, especially in low-lying areas.

Rain continues through Saturday night, with up to a half-inch possible. Sunday will be slightly cooler, though more storms may return by Sunday evening.
