Columbus, Ohio – Severe storms and flash flooding could disrupt travel and daily life across much of Ohio Sunday afternoon into the night, with damaging winds and isolated tornadoes expected in several areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, two waves of thunderstorms are expected — one in the afternoon through early evening and a second after dark. A Slight Risk for severe storms is in place for Cincinnati, Dayton, and Wilmington, with a Marginal Risk extending through Columbus, Chillicothe, and Marysville. Flood Watches are active across southern and central Ohio, continuing into Monday morning.
Cities like Cincinnati, Portsmouth, and Hillsboro could see intense downpours with rainfall rates that may trigger rapid flash flooding. Travel may become dangerous, especially near low-lying roads and streams. Residents in Columbus and nearby areas should stay alert for quickly changing conditions, especially as the second round of storms approaches overnight.
The greatest threats include localized wind damage, isolated tornadoes, and flooding from repeated rounds of heavy rain. Officials urge residents to avoid driving through flooded roads, charge phones and backup batteries, and monitor weather updates closely.
Warnings remain in effect through early Monday. Additional watches or alerts may be issued as storms evolve.
