Cincinnati, Ohio – Drivers, outdoor workers, and festival-goers in southwest Ohio should brace for a blast of dangerous heat starting Saturday, August 16. Heat index values will surge into the upper 90s and near 100 degrees through Tuesday, raising risks for heat exhaustion and road hazards on busy corridors like I-75 and I-71.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, the most intense heat will hit Sunday and Monday, with actual highs in the mid-90s and light winds offering little relief. A slight chance of thunderstorms Sunday afternoon could briefly cool temperatures but may also bring sudden downpours and lightning hazards.

Residents are urged to limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, drink plenty of water, and never leave children or pets in parked cars. Local hospitals often see heat-related illnesses spike during prolonged high index periods.

Saturday will bring sunny skies and highs near 94. By Monday, temperatures will climb to 96 with heat index values close to triple digits. Storm chances increase Tuesday through Thursday, potentially breaking the heat but adding localized flooding threats.

The heat wave will impact Butler, Hamilton, and Clermont counties most directly, but surrounding areas in northern Kentucky and southeast Indiana will also feel the strain.

Warnings remain in effect through early next week, and additional advisories could be issued if conditions worsen.
