Columbus, Ohio – A series of weak weather systems will bring multiple rounds of light snow to parts of Ohio through Wednesday night, with cold temperatures and brisk winds adding to travel concerns.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a weak system will move through the region tonight, producing light snow mainly across west-central and central Ohio. A second round of light snow is expected Wednesday night as a cold front slides through the area.
Snowfall amounts are expected to be light, but localized accumulations near 1 inch are possible, especially where snow persists the longest. Probability guidance from the National Weather Service shows higher chances of 1 inch or more across central Ohio, including areas near Columbus, Springfield, and Wilmington, with lower probabilities farther south toward Cincinnati.
Temperatures will remain cold today, with highs in the mid-20s to lower 30s. Gusty winds will push wind chills into the single digits and teens, particularly during the morning and evening hours. While temperatures are expected to moderate slightly on Wednesday, they will still remain below normal for late December.
The repeated rounds of light snow combined with cold pavement temperatures could lead to slick spots on untreated roads, especially during overnight and early morning hours. Bridges, overpasses, and secondary roads are expected to be most affected.
Forecasters note that while this system does not appear significant, even small accumulations may impact travel due to the cold conditions. Dry weather is expected to return later Thursday and continue into the weekend.
Motorists are encouraged to use caution, allow extra travel time, and monitor updated forecasts as timing and snow coverage may change slightly. Those heading out for New Year’s Eve activities should dress for cold conditions and be alert for icy surfaces.
