Columbus, OH – Ohio will be one of the colder spots in the Midwest as an Arctic Blast pushes into the region from Monday, Dec. 1 through Friday, Dec. 5, bringing a Cold December pattern with snow showers, falling temperatures, and the first risk of subzero wind chills this season.
According to the National Weather Service, multiple disturbances early in the week will trigger light snow and flurries, with the highest chances across northern and central Ohio. Snow accumulations should remain light, but reduced visibility and slick spots are possible during the morning commute, especially north of I-70.
Temperatures will fall into the teens for much of the state, with single-digit lows possible across northwest and northeast Ohio. Forecasters warn that wind chills may dip below zero, particularly during the late-night and early-morning hours from Tuesday through Thursday.
The cold deepens statewide as Arctic air settles over the Midwest, consistent with NOAA’s 6–10 Day Temperature Outlook, which places Ohio in a strong “below-normal” temperature zone for Dec. 1–5. Breezy winds will reinforce the bitter feel, and additional waves of light snow are possible midweek.
While no significant winter storm is currently expected, forecasters say this pattern may set the stage for more active systems later in December. Residents should prepare for dangerous wind chills, slick travel, and intermittent snow showers throughout the early-week period.
