Columbus, Ohio – Drivers across central and southern Ohio could face ponding on roads and reduced visibility through Tuesday night as widespread rainfall and slow-moving thunderstorms sweep the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, rain chances remain elevated at 70% to 90% across much of the state, with the heaviest showers expected Tuesday afternoon and evening. Areas such as Dayton, Chillicothe, and Portsmouth are seeing some of the highest precipitation probabilities—up to 92%—raising concerns for localized flooding, especially in low-lying and urban zones.

Cincinnati and Columbus may experience pockets of heavy rain and embedded thunderstorms, with rainfall rates potentially exceeding an inch per hour in isolated areas. Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded roadways and to monitor local alerts. Flash flooding is possible where downpours persist.

Travelers along I-70, I-71, and U.S. 23 should prepare for slick conditions and slowed traffic. Utility crews remain on standby in case of power outages caused by lightning or downed limbs. Homeowners should check sump pumps and clear drains to reduce water buildup.

Rain chances continue into midweek, and the NWS may issue additional advisories if storm activity intensifies. Stay tuned for updates as the weather system progresses.
