Columbus, Ohio – Drivers across Ohio could face repeated wet roads and reduced visibility during commutes as waves of rain begin cycling through the state within the first full week of April, paired with unusually high temperatures pushing toward the upper 80s.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, Ohio sits in a 50–60% probability zone for above-normal precipitation from early to mid-April, while temperatures trend 40–60% above average statewide. This combination signals a pattern of frequent rain events fueled by early-season warmth.

Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati are all expected to see multiple rounds of rainfall, increasing the risk of ponding on major roadways like I-71, I-75, and I-90 during peak travel hours. In western Ohio, including Dayton and Toledo, saturated ground could slow agricultural preparation and elevate minor flooding concerns near rivers and low-lying areas.

The added heat will intensify conditions between systems. Afternoon highs may surge into the mid to upper 80s, levels more typical of early summer. The warm air will also support heavier downpours at times, especially during afternoon and evening hours when instability peaks.

Residents should clear storm drains, check sump pumps, and avoid driving through water-covered roads. Keep devices charged in case isolated storms disrupt power, particularly in areas with repeated rainfall.

This active pattern is expected to persist through mid-April, with additional advisories likely as each round of rain develops.
