Cleveland, OH – The air off Lake Erie feels heavy and cold this morning — the kind that stings your face and makes every breath visible. As the lake steams in the early gray light, northeast Ohio braces for a powerful winter return that could slow travel and cover much of the region in a fresh coat of snow.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Winter Weather Alert calls for 2–4 inches of snow Monday night into early Tuesday, with gusts up to 40 mph creating blowing and drifting conditions. A mix of rain and snow is likely through Monday afternoon before fully changing to snow by evening as temperatures drop toward the mid-20s°F.
Commuters across Cleveland, Akron, and Mentor should expect difficult travel after sunset Monday and during Tuesday’s early drive. Strong winds could create near-whiteout bursts along I-90 and I-271, especially in open areas near the lake.
Meteorologists warn that flash freezing is also possible where melted snow refreezes on untreated roads, adding to slick spots on bridges and ramps. Conditions should gradually improve by Tuesday afternoon as the system pushes east.
Five-Day Outlook:
- Monday: Cloudy with snow developing late, high 35°F.
- Monday Night: 2–4″ snow possible, breezy, low 27°F.
- Tuesday: Snow tapering early, high 36°F.
- Wednesday: Breezy with snow chances, high 35°F.
- Thursday: Mostly sunny, cold, high 33°F.
This storm marks Ohio’s first measurable December snowfall and ushers in a colder stretch through the week. Keep shovels, salt, and winter kits ready — early December’s bite is here.
