Columbus, Ohio – A dramatic temperature crash is hitting Ohio today, with readings plunging more than 40 degrees from Sunday’s record-setting warmth, creating a sharp chill that will be felt immediately across the state.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, highs will only reach the mid-30s to around 40 degrees Monday, a stark contrast to Sunday’s highs that reached the mid to upper 80s. Columbus tied its warmest March temperature on record at 86°F, while Dayton and Cincinnati also ranked among their top warmest March days.
The sudden cooldown is being driven by a cold air mass and steady winds, making it feel even colder than the thermometer suggests. Wind chills will hover in the 30s throughout the day, especially along the I-70 and I-71 corridors where winds remain persistent.
Cities including Dayton, Springfield, and Wilmington will struggle to climb out of the upper 30s, while southern areas like Cincinnati may briefly touch the low 40s. The colder air will linger into tonight, with lows dipping into the upper 20s and low 30s, raising concerns for refreezing on untreated surfaces.
Residents should dress in layers, secure outdoor items, and prepare for a noticeably colder start to the week. Temperatures begin to rebound Tuesday, climbing back into the 50s, with additional warming expected through midweek.
