Columbus, Ohio – Storms capable of producing hail larger than 2 inches could strike central Ohio during a narrow but dangerous window Sunday evening, threatening vehicles, roofs, and evening travel.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, isolated storms are expected to develop between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., with the highest risk zone centered along and near the I-70 corridor, including Columbus, Springfield, and Chillicothe. Additional storms may redevelop later in the evening, extending the threat through 1 a.m. Monday.
Large hail is the primary concern, with some stones exceeding 2 inches in diameter, large enough to shatter windows and dent vehicles. Isolated wind gusts strong enough to bring down tree limbs and power lines are also possible during the same timeframe.
Drivers should be prepared for sudden downpours and rapidly changing road conditions during peak evening hours. Residents are urged to move vehicles into garages, stay away from windows during storms, and ensure alerts are enabled on mobile devices.
The severe threat continues into the overnight hours, and additional warnings may be issued as storms develop and track across central and south-central Ohio.
