Cleveland, Ohio – August 2025 delivered an unusually dry and cool end to summer across Northern Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania, with Akron-Canton Airport recording only 0.19 inches of rain—the driest August and the driest month ever recorded at that site.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, every reporting location in the region received below-normal precipitation for the month. Cleveland picked up just 1.92 inches of rain, 1.64 inches below normal, while Youngstown was short by more than 2 inches. Toledo’s total of 0.89 inches made it the second-driest August ever documented there.
Temperatures also dipped below seasonal norms. Akron-Canton’s average high was nearly 3 degrees cooler than average, with overnight lows trending more than 3 degrees lower. Cleveland saw similar drops, with average highs at 78.7°F and lows at 61.4°F—both over 2.5 degrees below normal.
Toledo hit 93°F on August 14, the region’s highest mark, while Akron-Canton and Erie reached 90°F during mid-month heat bursts. But late-August mornings were brisk, dropping into the mid-40s across multiple cities by August 30.
The National Weather Service notes that extended dry conditions could affect soil moisture and drought outlooks into September if rain doesn’t return soon.
