Pittsburgh, PA – Steady rainfall is expected to continue through midweek across western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and northern West Virginia, with the National Weather Service (NWS) forecasting 1.5 to 3 inches of total precipitation by Wednesday night.
According to the U.S. National Weather Service Pittsburgh office, rainfall will steadily increase across the region starting Monday night, with heavier amounts expected in Ohio before spreading eastward. Zanesville and Cambridge, OH, could see between 2 to 3 inches, while Pittsburgh and surrounding Allegheny County are forecast to receive 1.5 to 2 inches. Areas such as Wheeling, WV, and Butler, PA, are also projected to see similar totals.
The NWS noted that rainfall will persist through Thursday morning, with totals potentially exceeding 2 inches in some locations. Motorists should prepare for slower travel times, slick highways, and localized ponding on roads, especially during peak commute hours.
While widespread flooding is not currently anticipated, forecasters caution that saturated soils could increase the risk of minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Residents are advised to monitor forecasts and use extra caution while driving through heavy downpours.
This storm system comes as seasonal temperatures remain steady, but wet conditions may extend into late week, keeping roads damp and rivers elevated.
