Columbus, Ohio – Much of the Ohio River Valley will enjoy a dry Fourth of July weekend as high pressure settles over the region, helping swollen rivers continue to recede.
According to the National Weather Service Ohio River Forecast Center, elevated water levels along the lower White, Wabash, and Green Rivers—affecting parts of Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky—are slowly declining and expected to continue falling through the weekend. The region has seen above-average rain in recent weeks, pushing river gauges near minor flood thresholds.
Most of Ohio, eastern Indiana, and western Pennsylvania will remain dry through Sunday, though isolated thunderstorms could pop up in southern areas. The NWS satellite imagery shows clear skies over much of the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley region, signaling stable air overhead.
Local agencies are urging residents near rivers to continue exercising caution, especially near levees and low-lying roads that may still be slick or muddy. Campers and boaters should check for lingering advisories in counties along the White and Wabash Rivers.
Dry conditions are expected to persist into early next week, but any shift in storm tracks could trigger new advisories.
