CINCINNATI, Ohio – After a soaking 48 hours that dropped between 2 and 5 inches of rain across parts of the Ohio Valley, a much-needed dry spell is on the way. The National Weather Service Ohio River Forecast Center reported widespread rainfall across the region, with the heaviest totals centered over southern Indiana and northern Kentucky.

According to the National Weather Service, the next several days will bring mostly dry weather, helping saturated soils begin to recover. River levels, which surged from the recent rain, are expected to slowly fall back toward normal flow by early next week.

Localized flooding briefly impacted low-lying areas along the Ohio River and its tributaries Wednesday morning, but conditions are improving. Drivers should still watch for residual ponding on rural roads through Thursday.

Dry air and seasonal temperatures are expected to dominate into next week, giving the region a break from frequent rainfall and cloud cover that has persisted since late September.
