WILMINGTON, Ohio – Streetlights glint off wet pavement across southwest Ohio this morning, the sound of steady rain echoing against cooling air. After a damp start, this week’s weather is shifting toward a drier, more comfortable setup — just in time for Halloween celebrations.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, moderate rain continues today with gusts topping 25 mph at times. The system will bring roughly a half-inch of rain before easing by late Thursday, when drier and cooler air begins filtering in. Though clouds will linger through part of Thursday night, Friday’s pattern turns more settled with sunshine returning to most of the Miami Valley and I-71 corridor.

For trick-or-treaters Friday evening, conditions should be near perfect for late-October — dry skies, a light west breeze, and temperatures near 50°F at sunset, dipping into the mid-40s by 9 p.m. Costumes layered for warmth will go a long way, especially with clear skies allowing for a brisk feel after dark. Roadways should dry well before festivities begin, but residents are urged to use extra caution with wet leaves still covering sidewalks and driveways.

By Saturday, fall settles in fully. Highs hover in the lower 50s with mostly sunny skies ideal for raking, football tailgates, or last-minute pumpkin carving. Sunday looks similarly pleasant, a calm start before early November’s next system brings a few showers early next week.

Don’t forget — clocks fall back at 2 a.m. Sunday for the end of Daylight Saving Time. A chilly November lies ahead.
